Welcome to our web site!
On this home page, we'll introduce our practice
and highlight important areas on our site.
Here is a YouTube snippet of an interview Dr. Gaster gave following a lecture on corneal cross-linking, which can benefit
those who may need a corneal transplant in the future yet can possibly avoid it if they get treatment in time with this new
and exciting advance in ophthalmology.
You can click on our website above, you can google Ronald N. Gaster, M.D.
in Los Angeles, California and Orange County, California, you can review his CV, where
he is an Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine teaching residents. However, Dr.
Gaster no longer sees private patients at the University as of July 2013 when he left to devote himself full time to private
practice. Dr. Gaster can only be seen by patients at his private practices listed below. Contact the offices
listed below for an appointment.
Dr. Gaster is also heavily
involved in research and implementation of the latest technologies available for surgical and non surgical ophthalmic disease
and trauma. He works with advanced lasers and is a principal investigator for a corneal collagen cross-linking clinical
study, where he is able to offer this new procedure as part of a clinical trial. (Unless one travels to the UK, Canada or
Europe, a clinical trial is the only way you can receive the benefits of this new technology and treatment, which we offer).
Ronald N. Gaster, M.D., board certified and fellowship trained, has been involved with the development in the U.S.
of corneal collagen cross-linking since 2008 when he attended the 5th annual International Congress on Corneal Cross-Linking.
In December 2012, Ronald N. Gaster, M.D., F.A.C.S. was a featured and keynote speaker at the 8th
Annual International Congress on Corneal Cross-Linking held in Geneva, Switzerland on December
7, 2012, where he spoke to world leaders in opthalmology actively involved in this new procedure. He again
spoke at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology pre meeting in New Orleans November 2013 and will be speaking in Colorado
in February 2014, in Boston in April 2014 and in Rio de Janeiro in April 2014. So he brings his tremendous experience
in clinical trials and clinical practice in treating keratoconus patients and cornea transplant patients (and potential cornea
transplant patients) when discussing the latest advances in surgery.
Ronald
N. Gaster, M.D. was also President of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology (2002-2004), former
acting chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, UC Irvine, nominated in 2011 by UC Irvine Medical Center
as a Clinician of the Year, and named by the Orange County Medical Association as a 2014
Physican of Excellence and a 2014 Top Doctor of Orange County by Orange Coast Magazine,
and recently notified he would be included in Los Angeles Magazine's 2014 supplement of Southern
California Superdoctors and 2014 Best Doctors in America. And this is in addition to his 2012/2013 inclusion in U.S.
News and World Report'S TOP DOCTORS IN THE U.S and Woodward and White's peer reviewed 2013 BEST DOCTORS IN AMERICA.
And none of these honors or inclusions
has been paid for or solicited by Dr. Gaster nor has he received any compensation from these entities.
Choosing a healthcare provider and in this case, an ophthalmologist who
is board certified and fellowship trained in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery and
specializing in trauma to the cornea, corneal transplant surgery, diseases and treatment of the cornea, corneal cross-linking
(also known as CXL, CCXL, and corneal CXL) advanced dry eye treatments, Bladeless LASIK, cataract surgery, prebyopia correction,
ptergium surgery and complicated cases in ophthalmology and surgical opthalmology
is one of the most important decisions you can make.
You want someone
who is caring, knowledgeable, and accessible. (Dr. Gaster also just received "The 2013
Most Compassionate Doctor" award in addition to all of his Best Doctors in America awards.
The Most Compassionate Doctor award was judged by his patients. But the award he always seeks is the satisfaction and
excitement from his patients when their vision is significantly improved and they can see clearly. And he accompanies
his skill and experience with the patience and committment of a doctor willing
to take the time to discuss with you all of your options so that your quality of life is better.
Ronald N. Gaster, M.D. is also seeing patients for second opinions and initial evaluations.
At our practice, we pride ourselves on our patient service. We offer a knowledgeable staff, a nationally
and internationally recognized eye surgeon, safe and proven procedures, clinical trials and advanced medical technology, including
the IntraLase Femtosecond Laser, Corneal CXL, ultra thin DSEAK and DSEK, and the latest in eye surgical technology.
We do advanced procedures in cornea transplant surgery, including but not
limited to DSEK, DSAEK, DALK, FEMTO ASSISTED PK OR IEK, FLEK. Dr. Gaster has years of experience in obtaining the best
corneas for transplantation, especially with his new procedure of ultra thin DSEK and DSAEK., where the cornea transplanted
is under 100 microns. Some studies have shown that this advance appears to offer better vision and clarity.
Ronald N. Gaster, M.D. has also been on the cutting edge of cornea transplant surgery
and has been using the femtosecond laser for cornea transplants (He is certified in the IntraLase or iFS laser) since its
inception. He was one of the first few doctors in the world to use this laser in corneal transplantation, in 2006, so
he brings years of experience and the latest laser technology to his practice, including its various advances since its inception.
This is in contrast to those who use a trephine blade exclusively. His publication
as first author in the prestigious British Journal of Ophthalmology, September 2012 (Br J Ophthalmol 2012;96:1195-1199) discusses better visual outcomes and recovery times using the femtosecond laser for cornea
transplants in keratoconus patients. See the link below.
We've created this web site for both new and current patients. It includes specific information on our practice and
our surgeon, RONALD N. GASTER, M.D., F.A.C.S. along with general information on Dr. Gaster's training,
formal education, awards, publications and honors. And we are available to consult with you as a first or second
opinion, to consult with your family doctor, optometrist, or current ophthalmologist about your particular eye disease
or injury.
These are the options available so that you can receive the best
care and feel completely comfortable. We also accept most major health insurances, including medicare, except we only
accept particular HMOs, although we are often able to get approval from many HMOs. Nevertheless, we will endeavor to
give you the best care possible and work out an affordable way of covering your procedure if necessary.
So don't hesitate to call for a one on one consultation with Ronald Gaster, M.D., who personally
performs all of his surgeries.
